CELIE'S STORY
I just love this little puppy. She is full of life and is so loving and affectionate.
Celie's name is from the movie character that Whoopi Goldberg played in The Color Purple. In the movie Whoopie, or rather her character Celie, became such a strong and beautiful woman and person. She inspired her family and friends to also aspire to be the best that they could be. She empowered herself (as has Whoopie Goldberg both on screen and off screen in her real life) and helped to empower other women. All of these women had faith in Miss Celie.
I am hoping to show her in an official match in the future, but right now I am in a graduate program and it does not leave me with any time for training or traveling. But she is only five months old and we have time.
Celie at her first puppy show. It was a fun match held by the Sacramento Council of Dog Clubs. While Celie won first place in her class (4-6 months), she was the only pup! But her mom has kennel blindness and thinks she would have won even if there were a 100 pups in that class.
Celie won her other ribbon for Best of Opposite Sex. Now she had a little competition for that one so it would be safe to say she won that one on her own.
So much for the dream. Celie is now 11 months old and has been diagnosed with grade 3 lux in both of her hind legs. She is pet quality and not show quality, and I always knew that. However, you hope your pup has good breeding and genes to grow up to be strong and healthy whether they are pet or show quality. Like most pet quality pups they have their flaws that are detrimental enough to keep them out of the ring; that is why they are called pet quality. Being able to strut her stuff in the ring is less important when you think about whether or not she will just be able to walk and run and enjoy life as it should be for a sweet little pup.
She will be spayed in a couple of weeks so as not to pass on her defective gene-pool and then this Summer she will have surgery on both legs. Hopefully, after surgery, this spirited little pup will be able to strut her stuff around the yard and run and play without much effort.
I have faith in Celie that she will do just fine as did Whoopie Goldberg. Two strong females with champion courage!

Celie was spayed today. As soon as she recovers from this surgery, she will have surgery on one leg and then the other. Hopefully, she will be up and running by the end of the Summer.
